KEY PURPOSE OF JOB
The ECAD Draughtsman is responsible for creating and maintaining electronic schematics, PCB layouts, and technical documentation using Altium Designer. The role supports the Electronic Engineering team by implementing design changes, maintaining the ECAD component library, managing Bills of Materials (BOMs), and preparing manufacturing and assembly documentation.
The ECAD Draughtsman ensures all documentation complies with company engineering standards, configuration control processes, and applicable quality and manufacturing requirements while supporting the successful delivery of electronic products.
KEY TASKS:
General:
Support the Electronic Engineering team by creating, revising, and maintaining detailed electrical schematics, PCB layouts, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and wiring documentation using Altium Designer and other approved engineering software.
Assist in transforming conceptual electronic designs into accurate technical documentation suitable for manufacturing and production.
Update and maintain existing electronic drawings, PCB documentation, and design files based on engineering changes and project requirements.
Collaborate with Electronic Design Engineers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure that documentation accurately reflects the intended design, functionality, manufacturability, and testability.
Prepare and maintain complete design documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), assembly instructions, fabrication drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and component placement documentation.
Ensure all drawings and documentation comply with company engineering standards, IPC standards, configuration control processes, and industry best practices.
Review manufacturing documentation and implement updates based on supplier and manufacturer feedback.
Participate in design reviews by providing input on drawing accuracy, completeness, manufacturability, and compliance with project specifications.
Work closely with Project Managers to monitor drawing deliverables and ensure documentation is completed according to project schedules.
Support Production, Manufacturing, and Test departments by providing accurate drawing packages and resolving documentation-related queries during assembly, integration, and testing.
Maintain engineering documentation, drawing revisions, and project records in accordance with Configuration Control procedures.
Liaise with Procurement and Manufacturing teams to ensure documentation supports component sourcing and production requirements.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, drafting best practices, and knowledge sharing within the Electronic Engineering team.
Perform any other ad hoc duties as reasonably required by the company.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Qualification:
National Diploma or bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering.
Experience:
1–3 years' experience in an electronic engineering or electronics manufacturing environment.
Experience creating PCB documentation and electronic manufacturing drawings.
Exposure to Configuration Management processes is advantageous.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIE
Technical Skills:
Proficient in Altium Designer.
Experience with ECAD software and electronic documentation.
Understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes.
Familiarity with Bills of Materials (BOMs), wiring diagrams, and manufacturing documentation.
Knowledge of IPC standards is advantageous.
Strong attention to detail and document control practices.
Strong self-management skills, able to set priorities and meet deadlines.
